KATHMANDU, Feb 24 news: - Come Friday, Narayanhity King's  Palace Museum will swing open to the public.
The government on Monday unveiled its phase-wise plan to open the museum to the public after nine months of preparation.
The government had declared the palace a museum on June 15, 2008, following former king Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah’s evacuation on June 11 the same year.
According to museum officials, in the first phase, the public will be allowed to enter the museum from the main gate of Narayanhity Palace and then into Gaurishankar room and subsequently to 21 other special-rooms and exit through the Annapurna door (the northern point of the museum).
The public will also be allowed to visit the gardens of former kings, also called the 'water-fountain' as well as the site where the Royal massacre took place on June, 1, 2001, that left 10 family members of late King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah dead.
In the second phase, the government will exhibit the Royal crown, scepter, Royal decorations, the Daimler-Benz car, supposedly gifted by German dictator Hitler to Rana Prime Minister Juddha Shumsher; luxurious vehicles used by the Royal families, residences of Royal families, horse-stables, ornamental pieces for horses, dazzling carriages; as well as other sites left out in the first phase.

According to Jaya Ram Maharjan, chief of the museum, 66 guides have been trained to  help the public.
According to him, only a month ago, Ministry of Finance (MoF) had allocated Rs. 20 million for the first phase of the exhibition. But, once the government allocates more budget and provides adequate staff, the second phase of the exhibition will begin.
He also said they require over 250 staff to handle the museum, whereas there are only 183 at the moment.
